Yosemite Tioga Pass Road opens 5/27/21

Tioga Road (the continuation of Highway 120 through the park) will tentatively open to all vehicles on Thursday, May 27, at 8 am, weather and conditions permitting.

Free COVID-19 Testing in Yosemite Valley and El Portal

Continued COVID-19 testing is an important tool that helps protect the Yosemite Community.

Free Testing is available in Yosemite Valley on Monday, May 24, from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm (closed 2:00-3:00 pm for lunch). The testing site is located at the Yosemite Valley Emergency Services Complex (9034 Lost Arrow Rd).

Free Testing is available in El Portal on Wednesday, May 26 from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm (closed 2:00-3:00 pm for lunch). The testing site is located at the El Portal Community Center.

It continues to be recommended for anyone working in close contact with high volumes of the public to continue to get tested frequently. For those who have been fully vaccinated, it is recommended to get tested between every two weeks to at least once a month. For those who have not yet been fully vaccinated, or for those who work in healthcare/EMT or other close-contact positions, it is recommended to get tested every 7-14 days.

If you have been traveling out of your home area or have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, it is recommended to get tested within 4-6 days of returning from travel or from the date of the COVID-19 exposure.

Half Dome Cable Installation Today
The Half Dome cables are being installed. Please respect workers and keep the area clear. The cables will be available for use May 19–October 12. Last 2 Fire Refreshers June 17 & June 22
Attention Red Card Applicants: the last 2 Wildland Fire Safety Refresher webinars will be held on Thursday, June 17 and Tuesday, June 22, ahead of the IQCS deadline of June 30 for seasonal staff. To access the refresher you must sign into the Wildland Fire Learning Portal and locate RT-130 Yose FY2021-01.

Once at the course page do not forget to scroll down the left side to the Administration box and click on self-enroll. This will give you access to all the content and sign ups to the webinars. This can be done from any computer. You must complete all the online content and attend a webinar to get credit for the refresher. In addition, there are sign offs for the Shelter deployments on the new application. Please schedule shelter deployments with your pack test. There are modifications to the plastic shelter bag, if you have equipment signed out already, please bring it with you to ensure proper modification is complete. This will help ensure your shelter will deploy when you need it most.

No Half Staff Saturday
This year Americans are observing both Peace Officers Memorial Day and Armed Forces Day on Saturday, May 15. Peace Officers Memorial Day gives honor to peace officers who have died, or who have been disabled, in the line of duty. Armed Forces Day pays tribute to the men and women serving in our nation’s military. In accordance with U.S.C. Title 4, Chapter 1, Section 7(m) of the U.S. Flag Code, the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff on Peace Officers Memorial Day unless that day is also Armed Forces Day. Americans should display the flag of the United States on May 15, 2021, to honor the patriotic service of the United States military, while also pausing with bowed head to give remembrance to those peace officers and their families having made the ultimate sacrifice. Yosemite National Park To Implement Pilot Overnight Climbing Permit System Beginning Friday, May 21, 2021 - Yosemite News Release Release May 7, 2021
Yosemite National Park – All visitors planning to overnight on any rock climbing routes in Yosemite National Park will be required to obtain an overnight wilderness climbing permit beginning on May 21, 2021. This pilot program is being implemented to better understand how park visitors use Yosemite’s big walls and to help improve climbing wilderness ethics and reduce negative human impacts associated with overnight big wall use.

Overnight climbing permits will be available beginning at 8 a.m. on May 14, 2021. For the duration of the pilot program, these permits will be free. Please visit https://yosemite.org/climbingpermits/ to learn more.
