The Mist Trail is now open. The upper portion of the John Muir Trail between Clark Point and Nevada Falls remains closed due to icy conditions. The Clark Point cutoff to the top of Nevada Falls is open. (P. Johnson)

Bears Are Awake!
It's spring and Yosemite’s bears are officially out of their dens hungrily foraging around the park. The past five years have been some of the most successful years in terms of keeping bears wild with low bear incidents. This success will only continue if every park employee and resident works together to help protect wildlife:

-Keep your homes (and offices) secure when nobody is there - windows and doors need to be closed and latched.
-Store pet food, trash, recycling, and other possible attractants in a secure part of your house - never outside! Also keep in mind that many garages in the park are not secure enough to keep a bear out.
-Keep your vehicles free of all food, trash, recycling, and other scented items.
-Clip dumpsters every time you use them, or if you happen to see one unlatched.
-Use a portable bear resistant food storage container on any overnight wilderness trip. Stay within arm's-reach of your food when it's not otherwise being stored properly.
-Slow down on park roads!! Wildlife has to cross, and can appear suddenly!
-Give wildlife plenty of space! Enjoy them from a distance - at least 50 yards for a bear.
-Report bear activity and food storage violations to the Save-A-Bear Hotline (209)372-0322 or email [email protected].

Free COVID-19 Testing is available in El Portal Today and in Yosemite Valley on Wednesday. Note: Both locations are closed from 2-3pm for lunch.

Testing will be available in El Portal today from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. The testing site is located at the El Portal Community Center.

Testing will be available in Yosemite Valley on Wednesdays from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. The testing site is located at the Yosemite Valley Emergency Services Complex (9034 Lost Arrow Rd).

The park's testing provider is now OptumServe/LHI. Testing is available for people of all ages, including children 3 and up with their parents/guardians present, as long as the children can tolerate the test.

Registering in advance is strongly advised, though walk ins may be available. It is easy to sign up online or by phone. There are 100 appointments available each testing day. Vehicle Stickers, Obtain by April 8th
Do you live in Yosemite or regularly drive into the park for work? If so, please follow the instructions below to get a current fee exemption sticker for your vehicle. It will help you, gate staff, and visitors alike, esp. with visitation picking up and longer queues at the gate. Red YNP-20 stickers are no longer valid for entry into Yosemite. Yosemite Hospitality employees--we will forward your email to your HR department.

Badger Pass Road Closing Sunday April 4th, 5pm

Yosemite Badger Pass will remain open to visitor access until 5pm, Sunday April 4th. The gate at Chinquapin will be closed and locked at that time.Roads crews will begin snow clearing operations on the Glacier Point Road. The road up to Badger Pass will be open to Administrative traffic only. Recreational bicycle use will be allowed from Chinquapin to Badger Pass until the snow clearing operations are complete.

Upper Pines
The 3rd and 4th loops of Upper Pines opened March 22 in addition to what was already open in the 1st and 2nd loops. Some sites within the campground remain closed for social distancing. Beginning April 1, all 6 loops of Upper Pines will open. Reservations must be made through Recreation.gov. (S. Montroy)

RT-130 Webinar Today 9AM
The first webinar RT-130 Wildland Fire Safety Refresher is Friday, March 19. All times are the same for the webinars: 0900 to 1200. The current goal is to get all permanent employee red card applications completed by April 30.

There is pre-work and information to review before attending the live webinar portions.

In addition to the refreshers, pack tests are back on this year. With that, physicals need to be completed. Everyone who makes an appointment for a pack test should request to do their shelter deployment the same day in order to meet the refresher requirements for the fire shelters. Sanitized shelters will be available on those days to complete that portion of the application process. Also don't forget to bring gear, gloves, hard hat, and real shelter that day. There are modifications to the fire shelter bag that need to be completed this year (details in the refresher).
