It is very rare to be able to ice skate in Yosemite Valley much less in a meadow. Three things have to happen, very little snow, cold temps, and for skating in meadows, lots of water. They all came together on 1/21/23.

There is nothing like ice skating to sound of snow and ice fall thundering off of Yosemite Falls.

I checked the ice thickness which was 2.5 inches. There was no real danger though as this is only 3 feet deep.
