Today:  Sunny. Highs 67 to 75 at 5000 feet…54 to 62 at 8000 feet. Over higher elevations, west winds around 25 mph in the afternoon. Gusts up to 40 mph in the afternoon.

Tonight:  Mostly clear. Lows 45 to 51 at 5000 feet…34 to 40 at 8000 feet. Over higher elevations, southwest winds around 25 mph after midnight.

Tomorrow:  Sunny. Highs 62 to 70 at 5000 feet…51 to 59 at 8000 feet.

Community Updates As Of April 29

Mariposa County has had its first reported confirmed case of COVID-19. The U.S. has about 30% of the cases world wide, and nearly 30% of the fatalities world wide. Keeping those around you and yourselves safe becomes exponentially more important. Please continue adhering to the CDC guidance, with essential travel only. If you are out, please stay 6 feet away from each other and have a cloth face covering. You can sign up for Mariposa County Nixle, specifically for COVID-19 information, by texting MCCOVID to 888-777. Yosemite continues coordinating with Mariposa, Madera, and Tuolumne counties so that all are aligned within the region, and best protecting employee and community health.  

 

Mariposa County has announced more details on the increased capability to test residents for COVID-19. Individuals interested in being tested will need to contact ahead of time, and an appointment will be assigned. For more information go to https://www.mariposacounty.org/1592/COVID-19-Information

 

YARTS –  Based on greatly reduced ridership numbers, YARTS will be reducing service. From Merced to El Portal, there will be three runs a day – early morning, mid morning, evening. Similar going back from El Portal to Merced. For more information go to YARTS.com.

Safety & Wellness

This Saturday is National Wildfire Community Preparedness Day. If everyone does one or two things around their home leading up to May 2nd, it helps the whole community prepare and be safe. A few suggestions of things that can get you prepared for wildland fire:

 – Pick up yard debris from the winter to create defensible space around home.

 – Create an emergency preparedness kit for your home.

 – Create a wildfire action plan for you and your family.

 – Create and evacuation checklist for your home.

 – Sign up for local alerts Go.nps.gov/alerts

Big Oak Flat Road Maintenance Today

Yosemite Road Crews will be performing maintenance on BOF Road tunnels and bridges on Thursday, April 30. Ease up on the throttle.  (R. Kish)

Crane Flat Area Tree Removal

Mather Forestry will be removing hazard trees along the Big Oak Flat road in the Crane Flat area. Work will take place May 6 and 7 between 7:30am and 4:00pm. Expect traffic delays.  (J. Brown)

RECENT NEWS

 

Bike Roundup

Starting Tuesday, April 28, Park Rangers will begin removing bicycles that appear abandoned within Yosemite Valley. The Rangers will focus on areas that are outside of and away from employee housing areas.  

 

Park Rangers will be looking for bikes that have:

 – Deteriorating, cracked, or flat tire(s)

 – Excessive rust

 – Significant covering of cobwebs, leaves, or duff

 – Missing or broken parts like wheels, handlebars, seat, chain, shifters, brakes etc.

 – Bent rim(s)

 – Other conditions that are not roadworthy

 

If you own a bicycle that is impounded or have any questions, please contact the Valley Rangers at 372-0224 during normal business hours. Thank you for doing your part to help keep Yosemite looking great!  (M. Hastings)

The Yosemite Archives would like to provide a friendly reminder to those cleaning out born digital files on the U and S drives that digital documents with permanent value can be transferred to the archives via the Archives Portal on the U Drive. CONSTRUCTION & TRAFFIC DELAYS

 

Valley Forestry On Lower Falls Trail

Valley Forestry will be removing tree hazards in the Lower Falls trail system. Portions of the trail system will be closed during operations, and work will continue Monday through Thursday 8:00am-4:00pm until further notice.  (B. See)

Single Lane Travel & One-Way Traffic Controls On State Route 120 During Spring And Summer 2020

Caltrans will conduct one-way traffic control on eastbound and westbound State Route 120 between Groveland and Yosemite National Park for paving operations. Work began Monday, April 13 and will finish in the Fall of 2020. Work is scheduled between 6:00 AM and 4:00 PM Monday through Friday. Motorists should anticipate 15-minute delays and plan travel time accordingly. Work is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials, and/or construction-related issues. Please drive carefully and watch for warning signs, workers and equipment in the roadway.  (J. Donovan)
