NEW AND HAPPENING TODAY

Community Updates As Of 4/17

It has been four weeks since the park closed. Everyone is doing a great job keeping yourselves and the community safe. Thank you, and please keep it up!

The Incident Management Team continues to receive questions about re-opening. They are working on plans in alignment with state and local plans, as well as public health guidance. The Park continues to work closely with gateway communities as well as national forests. Thank you to the county and internal park partners who have been supportive in this process, and who are working so hard to keep the community safe.

There has been a slight uptick in EMS calls. Initially calls were very low, but over the last few days the number of calls have gone up. Heads up about some changes to EMS calls:

– Dispatchers initially are looking for immediate-response cases like shortness of breath, loss of consciousness, etc.

– If it’s not something that needs an immediate response, the dispatcher may ask some more questions to try and decide if something is COVID-19 related. This means a call may be transferred, or a paramedic may call you back initially, to get as much information as possible This is not to delay care, but rather to direct resources to the best places available, to best protect first responders and the community, and conserve PPE. This is a shift in normal procedures but it seems to be working well.

Yosemite Hospitality Update

– EBT card readers for CalFresh are now up and running in El Portal Market, Wawona Store, Village Store. They are not yet working at Degnan’s, as this requires a special approval process.

– If anyone in YH needs help through the foodbank, please stop by HR 10am to 2pm Monday through Friday to fill out a form. The form goes directly to Mariposa County Health and Human Services. Pick-ups are on Thursdays.

– Please continue the good work on social distancing. You may see friends when out and about and may want to stop and say hi. That’s OK, but please stay a minimum of 6 feet away. This is also being applied to housing, and you will be asked to separate if you are seen in large groups of people.

– No more than 10 people at a time are being allowed in areas, including places like Degnan’s. Along these lines, please do not use the tables outside of Degnan’s for eating. Because those tables are close together, they cannot be used based on guidance from public health, in order to maintain social distancing.

Mariposa County Update

– Mariposa County still has zero recorded positive cases in the county. Two positive cases are being reported in Tuolumne, and one is from a couple of weeks ago, and the second is a positive case coming from a cruise ship. If someone tested positive after a cruise ship, they are being reported within that resident’s county.

– EBT cards are in place. CalFresh applications are processed very quickly. Pleaseapply as thoroughly as possible, since missing information can delay things slightly with follow-up phone calls.

– If you have any questions or concerns about benefits, please call 209-966-2000.
