Today: Sunny. Highs 74 to 80 at 5000 feet…64 to 70 at 8000 feet.
Tonight: Clear. Lows 44 to 54 at 5000 feet…35 to 45 at 8000 feet. Over higher elevations, west winds around 25 mph in the evening.
Tomorrow: Sunny. Very windy. Highs 65 to 73 at 5000 feet… 55 to 63 at 8000 feet. Southwest winds 30 to 40 mph in the afternoon. Over higher elevations, southwest winds 25 to 30 mph in the morning increasing to 35 to 45 mph in the afternoon. Gusts up to 65 mph.

Mariposa Grove Week Coming Up Next Week
Everyone is looking forward to Mariposa Grove week and the exciting events coming up surrounding the opening of the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias. Here are the details for the events next week:
Wednesday, June 13th, 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.: Employee Day
– All employees and volunteers working for the NPS,YH, YC, Ansel Adams, and partner organizations are invited to attend.
– No RSVPs are required for attendance.
– Please either wear your uniform, your name tag, or bring some sort of identification showing that you work or volunteer in the park in some capacity. This will be needed to access the parking lot and board the shuttle buses at the new South Entrance Welcome Plaza.
– Please drive (and carpool) to the new South Entrance parking lot. Parking is available at the South Entrance Parking Lot. Shuttle buses will be leaving from the Transit Depot at the Welcome Plaza every 30 minutes to transport employees to the Lower Grove.
– The event is slated from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The first shuttle bus will leave the Transit Depot at 8:30 a.m. and the last bus will depart the Lower Grove at 2:30 p.m. Please plan on coming and going as it fits your schedule. Please be sure to exit the Lower Grove by 2:30 p.m.
– Guided Interpretive walks of the Lower Grove will be offered at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. All are welcome and these will last approximately one hour. If interested in going on a walk, please meet at the Arrival Plaza at the Lower Grove.
– There will be a brief, informal awards ceremony at the Arrival Plaza of the Lower Grove at 12:00 Noon. Employees who played a significant role in the project will be honored and the park and Yosemite Conservancy will present the annual Partnership Award at this time.
– Light refreshments (cookies and lemonade) will be served at the Transit Depot. Please bring water and food as there will be no food available for purchase.
– The Yosemite Conservancy bookstore at the Welcome Plaza will be open throughout the day.
– Please ask your supervisor about attending the event if it is a work day. All employee and volunteers are welcome to attend and enjoy a sneak preview of this magnificent restoration project.
Thursday, June 14th, 10:00 A.M. TO 12:00 Noon: Dedication Ceremony
– This ceremony will officially dedicate the completion of the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias Restoration Project and will feature music, honored guest speakers, the park’s Mounted Patrol, and will conclude with a ribbon cutting.
– All park and partner employees, volunteers, family, and friends are invited to attend this historic ceremony. All are welcome- no rsvp’s are required.
– Please carpool and park in the new South Entrance Parking Lot where shuttle bus service will be available to go to the ceremony site. There will be Rangers available to direct vehicles.
– The first shuttle bus will depart the Transit Depot at 8:00 a.m. and the last shuttle before the ceremony will depart the Depot at 9:45 a.m. There will be no shuttle service once the ceremony begins until 12:15 p.m.
– Please plan on arriving early as it will be a very busy day.
– There is limited shade at the Ceremony site. Please bring sunscreen, water, and a hat. Chairs will be provided on a first-come first-served basis.
– Remarks will be provided by Yosemite National Park Superintendent Mike Reynolds, NPS Pacific West Regional Director Stan Austin, Yosemite Conservancy President Frank Dean, and others.
– If you are an NPS employee working that day, please check with your supervisor about attending the Ceremony.
– The Ceremony is slated to end at 12:00 Noon, or earlier. It will culminate in a ribbon cutting ceremony, officially dedicating the completion of the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias Restoration Project.
– The Yosemite Conservancy bookstore at the Welcome Plaza will be open throughout the day.
– The last shuttle bus will depart the Lower Grove at 2:00 p.m.

Friday, June 15th, 9:00 A.M.: Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias Opens to the Public
– At 9:00 a.m. the Mariposa Grove officially opens to the public.
– Shuttle buses will be departing the Transit Depot throughout the day.
– The Yosemite Conservancy bookstore at the Welcome Plaza will be open as well.

The YOSE Fire and Aviation Management Fire Prevention Office would like to remind everyone that Defensible Space clearance is required by June 10th. Defensible space inspections will begin in the El Portal Area soon thereafter, and then migrate to the higher elevations. Tuolumne Meadows Campground Opening June 14
Tuolumne Meadows campground will open for the 2018 season on Thursday, June 14. The campground is half reservation and half first come, first served. Reservations for the time period June 14 to July 14 will become available Friday, June 8 at 10AM Pacific time on www.recreation.gov or by calling 1-877-444-6777.

Yosemite Forum Tuesday, June 12
“Defining and monitoring mountain lion populations in California” by Dr. Justin Dellinger, California Department of Fish & Wildlife
Mountain lions are a top predator in California ecosystems and regulate populations of prey species such as grey foxes, ground squirrels, raccoons, and deer. Mountain lions are threatened by habitat fragmentation resulting from development and changes in forest structure. These habitat changes prompted the California Department of Fish and Wildlife to develop a Conservation Strategy to protect the species. This talk will discuss that Conservation Strategy and the recent mountain lion research that informs it. (G. Stock)

Tamarack Flat Campground Closed June 7-17
The campground will be open through the night of Wednesday, June 6th.
The campground will then be closed due to annual Native American Tribal use from Thursday, June 7th through the night of Sunday, June 17.
Tamarack will then reopen to the general public on Monday, June 18th.

Annual Fireline Safety Refresher Trainings: Multiple Dates
It’s that time of year again to maintain your currency as a wildland firefighter by signing up for one of the annual fireline safety refreshers being offered throughout the Park. These wildland fire refreshers are intended to provide participants the opportunity to maintain currency as a wildland firefighter and are required annually. Each refresher will be limited to 20 people so sign up soon. The final date is June 19th in various locations.
