Comparison of how Churchbowl looked in 1954 and now on 7.5.24

Churchbowl – Church and Sunday School classes. This area was a campground (Camp 20) until about 1918. It may have continued to be used as a winter campground as late as 1930. It became “Church Bowl” around 1920 and was used by the Yosemite Community Church primarily for summer services. In 1933, improvements were made to the Church bowl ground by the CCC. Church bowl was the location for the memorial service of Mrs. Curry in October 1948. In 1950, a storage unit was constructed by the church for the piano. In the 1990s, the benches were removed and the area was converted to a picnic area. Some of these benches are now in various places around the park.
