The Yosemite Exploration Center Is Opening!
The building formerly known as the Yosemite Valley Visitor Center is reopening with a fresh name and a fresh exhibit. The building will reopen after a long hiatus on Tuesday January 9th. This space sustained some storm damage in the big winter of 2022/2023, but is ready to help visitors connect to the natural and cultural history of the park. There is a new exhibit in the lobby called Yosemite Now that is aimed at piquing visitor’s curiosity and observation skills and what current science is happening in the park. This interactive space has some projecting microscopes and dozens of curios to explore to help visitors go deeper in their understanding of the natural world. Yosemite Conservancy staff will be stewarding this space along with the bookstore offerings. For directing visitors who are seeking NPS rangers, the esteemed Interpretation staff is now found at the Welcome Center for orientation and trip planning needs.
The Exploration Center and Bookstore will be open daily 9am-5pm, beginning this Tuesday January 9th. Come by and check out this refreshed location. (A. Ripple)

ONGOING PROJECTS

Dispatch Expansion Project

The Dispatch Expansion project is converting most of the El Portal Warehouse lobby into office space for the Emergency Communications (Dispatch) Center. The lobby elevator is off-limits except in case of emergency. The lobby stairs are still blocked off and the rest of the lobby area is closed unless you are involved with the project. Warehouse occupants and visitors need to use alternate means of ingress/egress until the re-construction of the stairs is finished. Do not enter through the RMS building unless you work there. To access the Dispatch office area, follow the signs in through the Trails area door just inside the fence/gate. Apologies for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience. Contact Nicole Belle Isle, Project Manager, for more information. (N. Belle Isle)
