Spotted Owls and Fire
Yosemite wildlife biologist Stephanie Eyes and others just published their findings on the habitat use patterns of spotted owls in the burned landscape of Yosemite. Their results suggest that "sustaining forests burned in a mosaic of lower fire severities in different years interspersed with large unburned patches may help to preserve California spotted owls in Yosemite National Park." In light of this information, all the hard work of the Yosemite prescribed fire program is very much appreciated! (Citation: Eyes., S. A., Roberts, A. L., and M. D. Johnson. 2017. California Spotted Owl (Strix occidentalis occidentalis) habitat use patterns in a burned landscape. Condor 119:375-388). (R. Mazur)
The Forum will take place Tuesday, June 13, from 3:30 to 4:30 pm in the Yosemite Valley Auditorium. For more information call Ami Knighten at 379-1301. (G. Stock)
