Historic barns in Foresta Meadow.
Imagine watching the sun set on Yosemite Valley, El Capitan, Half Dome, and Clouds Rest as you relax on the deck of one of these vacation rental homes. They are located in Foresta, a small private inholding located INSIDE of Yosemite National Park, on Hwy. 120 and just 15 minutes from Yosemite Valley. These are the closest private homes to Yosemite Valley, only 5 miles away. From the junction of HWY 120 and HWY 140 you drive 4 miles west on HWY 120, the Big Oak Flat Road, towards Crane Flat and the park's Hogdon Meadow entrance station. After going through the 3rd tunnel there is a turnoff on your left into Foresta.
Located at 4,200 ft above sea level, Foresta has unsurpassed views of Yosemite Valley and the surrounding Sierra Nevada mountains. A devastating wildfire swept through the area in 1990 hence the spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. There are not many large pine trees left but the area is making a remarkable recovery with thousands of 30 to 50 ft. pine trees and oaks surrounding the homes.
You can enjoy stunning views of Yosemite Valley as you drive down to the valley to enjoy one of the many activities there. Nearby are the Tuolumne and Merced Groves of Giant Sequoias. Or you can drive east on Hwy. 120 to Tuolumne Meadows for the peace and coolness of the high country, at 8,500ft., and then easy access to the east side of the Sierra.
There are miles of Forest Service dirt roads to enjoy mountain biking on while enjoying incredible views of Yosemite Valley. Deer, bear, eagles and other animals are often seen on the drive into Foresta. It seems that the Yosemite Miwoks were also fond of Foresta as evidenced by all the grinding holes found in the area. There is a large meadow with beautiful spring flowers in June. There are 2 large historical barns, a small pioneer cemetery and remnants of old sawmills as this was one of the original routes into Yosemite Valley.
